The educational programme of the Museu Arqueológico do Carmo (MAC) aims to encourage the public to learn about the experiences of MAC and its collection.
How do we propose doing this?
We offer guided visits which aim to satisfy the curiosity of everyone, while we also try to encourage interest in History and the Arts, which are part of this museum and its collection, inviting you to take a journey through the history of Portugal on both sides of the ocean.
The themes addressed are very different as are the possible ways of approaching them, and you can explore the six centuries of this Carmelite monument in the most varied ways, including a session of videomapping (12 minutes) and virtual visits, where you can see the old church with a roof!
We’re waiting for you!
Come and travel with us.

On average these visits last (approximately) 30 minutes, from Monday to Saturday, and are in various languages.
There is an endless variety of subjects to discover!
What was this building like before the earthquake of 1755? Is it true that it is one of the only churches that survived this earthquake?
How did various tombs of kings, queens and princesses end up here? Why does the MAC have such a varied collection?
Who was Joaquim Possidónio da Silva? What was this space like in 1864, when the MAC was founded?
Come and find the answer to all of these questions!
And contribute with your own!
