The archives of the Associação dos Arqueólogos Portugueses (AAP), consist of a series of documents produced and collected for the activities of a collective, private entity. Consult the Regulations and Price List of the Archives.

The document collection of the Associação dos Arqueólogos Portugueses has various collections distributed into 4485 records or compound documents. They are divided into the following types of document: minutes, correspondence, notes, newspapers, files, diplomas, proposals, photographs etc. Of these documents, 2000 have already been digitalised, and have a total of 115,000 images.

The main language of the documentation is Portuguese, but there is also correspondence in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish.

Among the documents, of note is the documentation from the end of the 19th century, particularly the minutes of the Association’s Annual General Meeting. The first minutes date from November 1863 and are unique because they bear witness to the creation of the Associação and the Museu Arqueológico do Carmo and other key moments in the History of National Archaeology in the 19th and 20th centuries. There is also an extensive collection of correspondence files, proposals and photographs about national movable, immovable and archaeological heritage, with the most varied national and international entities.

The archives of the AAP are in continuous expansion, and are oriented for internal use, and the support of the activities of the Associação and the Museum. Consultation is available for AAP associates, all of the researchers, and the general public officially authorised by the management board of the AAP. Those who are interested should contact the Archives through the following email, stating the objectives of the consultation.

The Fund is presently processing the Archives to subsequently digitalise it, and the data base can be consulted here.

The AAP is the oldest heritage defence association in Portugal and oversees the Museu Arqueológico do Carmo, the first art and archaeology museum in the country
