Reflexo Eterno, 2011 - Sofia Arez


Esta intervenção, comissariada por José Quaresma no âmbito da exposição "O Chiado, a Baixa e a Esfera Pública", invade o espaço museológico e arqueológico do Convento do Carmo em Lisboa com as possibilidades de vida e reconhecimento latentes no encontro do observador com a obra e seus arredores descobertos, gerando uma nova relação entre a terra dos mortos e o céu em movimento.

A obra surpreende pela forma como alia o facto de não haver tecto na igreja com a ideia de libertação do espírito em direcção ao céu. O céu como lugar de vida eterna para quem acredita que a alma não morre.

Para tal, sofia Arez coloca junto ao túmulo de D. Francisco de Faria, um espelho recortado em forma de sarcófago. O elemento espelhado permite ao observador ver a sua imagem, tendo como pano de fundo o céu. Trata-se de uma imagem directa do observador reflectida num espelho onde ele ao mesmo tempo tem a percepção dos limites das paredes da igreja, do seu corpo e do céu.

This intervention, curated by José Quaresma within the exhibition "O Chiado, a Baixa e a Esfera Pública", invades the museum and archaeological space of the Carmo Convent in Lisbon with the possibilities of life and recognition that are latent in the observer's encounter with the work and its uncovered surroundings, generating a new relationship between the land of the dead and the sky in motion.

The work surprises by the way it combines the condition of the church without a ceiling with the idea of the spirit's liberation towards heaven. Heaven as a place of eternal life for those who believe that the soul does not die. For that, Sofia Arez puts on the floor of the church, near the tomb of D. Francisco de Faria, a mirror cut in the shape of a sarcophagus.

The mirror element allows the observer to see his image against the background of the sky. It is a direct image of the observer reflected in a mirror where he at the same time has the perception of the limits of the church walls, his body and the sky.
