Célia Nunes Pereira - Conservadora do Museu Arqueológico do Carmo

"Non-faces that intersect, fluid and complementary dialogues that develop between the multiple sculptures, when they appear facing each other, revealing a complicity that is felt, overflows and goes beyond the "frames" and landscapes where they live.

By transporting us to their (absurd?) dimension, these sculptures invite us to travel along their lines, by the words (re)invented from the fragment.

This project is born from the re-edition of a sculpture that Sérgio Pombo created in the 1970s, now closing (as he himself states) "a cycle of concerns, ideas and feelings" that have always run through his work.

There is a series of concepts, archetypes and emotional charges that continue to be present in his current work, such as the recurrence to deconstruction, to the fragment of reality, to the dismemberment of the body in the lines that outline it and give it form, in order to use this process (search for the origin) to construct his own reality - that of the representation of the object.

In the creation of this reality, Memory plays a fundamental role, and it is through it that the artist imprints his identity on the conception of his works, endowing them with a dimension that transcends the matter that makes them tangible, making them autonomous and independent.

Alone or in groups, they represent an age of cyberculture where we oscillate between the necessary and healthy solitude (Freedom) and the solitude imposed by crowds." Célia Nunes Pereira - Curator of the Archaeological Museum of Carmo
